Heide SCHUSTER (PLEA President)

Heide Schuster is an architect, environmental consultant and Professor for Implemented Sustainable Design in the Built Environment at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany. She studied in Germany and London at the Architectural Association and holds a PhD in Architecture.

Heide has over 25 years of practical experience in implementing sustainable design into projects of different scales on national and international level and has run a number of research projects. She was co-initiator and founding member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and worked in the development of the German certification system. She also teaches – amongst other topics – international certification systems at the TUM.

Heide runs a specialised office in Germany – the BLAUSTUDIO Sustainability in Architecture and Urban Design – and focuses in recent years rather on rural areas. She currently is developing a learning plattform – the BLAUCAMPUS – addressing non-professionals such as private house owners and communal councillors to distribute knowledge directly to the decision makers.
